Drop in a video or photo, pick where it’s going, and Snugfile makes it small enough to send — looking as good as that size allows. Right on your computer, with nothing uploaded.

A 266 MB 4K video, a 43 MB clip, a GIF and three photos, all made to fit Discord. Sample footage: Sintel © Blender Foundation, CC BY 3.0.
Phones film in 4K now. A one-minute clip is a few hundred megabytes, and almost everywhere you’d send it has a much smaller limit.
A free account can’t send a clip longer than a few seconds straight off your phone or capture card.
Outlook.com stops at 20 MB. Your video gets swapped for a cloud link, or bounced.
Upload a private video to a stranger’s server, wait, hit their file cap, then get a watermark unless you subscribe.
And the free desktop tools ask you to choose bitrates, codecs and presets, then guess. Snugfile asks one question: how big can it be?
Three steps, about a minute for most clips. The same goes for email, Outlook or any size you type.
Drag videos, photos or a whole folder onto the window. Each one shows its length, picture size and file size.
Discord, Email, Outlook, Discord Nitro, or type your own size in MB.
Click Shrink, then drag the finished file straight from Snugfile into Discord, Mail or Slack.
Most tools make you guess a quality setting and hope. Snugfile works backwards from the size you need.

One window, no settings you need a manual for.
Discord 10 MB, Email 25 MB, Outlook 20 MB, Discord Nitro 50 MB, or any size you type, even 3.5 MB for a forum.
Send just the good part. Drag the start and end handles while you watch, or type the times. A shorter clip looks sharper at the same size.
iPhone HEIC to JPG, giant PNGs and TIFF scans made small, turned the right way up, with location data stripped out.
No size limit in mind? One Smaller–Better slider, with your graphics card doing the work on Apple, NVIDIA, Intel and AMD.
MP4 plays everywhere. GIFs get a colour palette made for each clip and shrink until they fit.
Finished files drag right out of the list into Discord, Mail, Slack or any folder. No hunting through Downloads.
Drop a folder of holiday clips and it picks out every video and photo inside, then works through them in order.
Nothing is uploaded and there’s no account. Snugfile works with your internet switched off.
The small copy is saved beside the original as “Name (small)”, or in a folder you choose. Nothing is ever overwritten.
Light and dark mode follow your system. Calm, clear and quick, on Windows and Mac.

The fastest way to a sharp small video is a shorter one. Trim right inside Snugfile, then it sizes the clip to fit.
Where your file is going decides how big it can be. These are the common limits as of October 2026.
| Where you’re sending it | Limit | In Snugfile |
|---|---|---|
| Discord (free account) | 10 MB | Discord |
| Discord Nitro Basic | 50 MB | Discord Nitro Basic |
| Discord Nitro | 500 MB | Custom size |
| Gmail attachments | 25 MB | |
| Yahoo Mail attachments | 25 MB | |
| Outlook.com attachments | 20 MB | Outlook |
| A forum, a form, a work system | Whatever it says | Custom size |
Limits are set by each service and can change. Check theirs if a file is refused, then type that number into Custom size.

Based on HandBrake’s standard version and popular free online compressors, October 2026. HandBrake is a trademark of its owners; Snugfile isn’t affiliated with it.
No premium tier, no add-ons, no subscription. This is everything in Snugfile.
One price, both computers, yours to keep.
Snugfile runs on most computers from the last several years. Bigger, longer videos take longer on older ones.
What people ask before they buy a video compressor.
Drop the video on Snugfile, pick Discord (under 10 MB) and click Shrink. Snugfile works out the right quality from the video’s length, makes it, checks the size, and makes it again a little smaller if it’s over. Then drag the new file straight from Snugfile into your Discord chat.
Free Discord accounts can upload files up to 10 MB. Nitro Basic raises it to 50 MB and full Nitro to 500 MB. Snugfile has one-click targets for 10 MB and 50 MB, and you can type any other size.
Gmail and Yahoo let you attach up to 25 MB, and Outlook.com 20 MB. Pick Email or Outlook in Snugfile and your video is made to fit, with a little room left for the message itself. If the video is long, trim it to the part you want first so it stays sharp.
As good as the size allows, and usually better than other tools manage. Snugfile encodes in two passes so every byte goes where it’s needed, and when a long video wouldn’t look clean at full resolution, it uses a smaller picture instead of a blocky one. Short clips are never padded up to the limit, so they don’t get bigger than they need to be.
Snugfile tells you plainly, instead of handing you a smeared mess, and suggests trimming it or choosing a bigger size. A 10 MB file holds roughly a minute of good-looking 720p, or several minutes at a smaller picture.
No. Everything happens on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded, there’s no account, and Snugfile works with no internet connection at all. Online compressors need you to upload your video to their server first; Snugfile never does.
Never. The smaller copy is saved next to the original as “Name (small).mp4”, or in a folder you choose. Existing files are never overwritten.
Yes. Drop HEIC photos in and Snugfile saves them as JPEG (or WebP or PNG) that open anywhere, turned the right way up. Location and camera details are removed on the way, which is good for sharing.
Yes. Choose GIF and Snugfile builds a colour palette for each clip and makes the GIF smaller and smoother until it fits the size you picked. It can also turn a GIF into an MP4, which is usually far smaller.
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, WMV, FLV, MTS/M2TS, 3GP, MPEG and animated GIFs go in. MP4 (plays everywhere), WebM or GIF come out. Photos: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, HEIC and TIFF in; JPEG, WebP or PNG out.
Snugfile is $15 USD, once. No subscription, no watermark, no file-size cap and no ads. One purchase includes the Windows and Mac versions and new versions through your download link.
HandBrake is a great free tool, but it asks you about bitrates, presets and containers, and none of its options say “make this fit in 10 MB”, so you end up guessing and re-exporting. Snugfile does one job: you pick the size, and it lands under it the first time.
Snugfile is made by an independent developer and isn’t sold through the Microsoft Store or the Mac App Store, so the first time you open it your computer asks you to confirm. On Windows click “More info” then “Run anyway”. On a Mac open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click “Open Anyway”. You only do this once.
In Best quality mode, yes, if your computer has a supported chip: Apple, NVIDIA, Intel or AMD. Fit a size always uses the careful two-pass encoder so the size comes out exact.
